Ten things you didn't know about YOU

From the 7th floor:
Here are some things you might not know about YOU magazine!

1. YOU is always written in capital letters.

2. Three staffers have worked here since day 1 in 1987.

3. YOU’s first cover was Princess Diana with a very young Prince Harry on her hip.

4. It takes seven hours to print YOU and another four to five days to distribute the mag countrywide. Capetonians get to grab their copy on a Friday already! Lucky us in so many ways.

5. YOU is sold in several Southern African countries including Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana.

6. We have news conferences every Monday and Thursday mornings. Mondays are for urgent stories we need done for Wednesday’s deadline. Thursday conferences last more than two hours and are for general stories and news stories. We have our Johannesburg office hooked up on a TV system so we can see each other when we discuss our ideas.
Wednesday night is our main deadline night – staff often work till 11pm or later signing off the final pages.

6. Products, books and dvds sent to us for review are put on a Christmas sale in December and all money goes to charity – last year we made R24 000!

7. We don’t get to keep the clothes we shoot for fashion

8. We have won a number of awards over the years including Picas, Media24 Excellence Awards, Advantage Admag Awards and Sunday Times Next Generation Brand Awards

9. Many of our staffers are good personal friends after hours and we share bottles of wine and hours of gossip

10. We still get excited when we see someone reading YOU magazine

Daar is 'n engelse gesegde: "There, but for the Grace of God, go I".

When Joost was courting Amor, I had my doubts about this relationship. Why was he going to divorce his 1st wife? And immediately marry Amor? I thought that Amor deserved much better. I feel sorry for Amor and her children. When the parents make a mistake, the children, somehow, seem to suffer the consequences of their parents' deeds. This is tragic, as they are the innocent victims of the adults selfishness or irresponsibility. It will be nearly impossible to mend this marriage. I doubt that he will ever change. How many times has he been unfaithful? She will find it very hard to trust him again. It is better for her to move forward and build a new life for herself and kids. The children are still young and will adjust, if she stays in good terms with Joost and they work out together what are the best interests of their children. They should put the interests of these very young kids above of their own. She works very hard and is an amazing woman and entertainer/singer, she deserves a devout and loyal partner. He is not well liked by everyone in the sports circle... why? She is a very popular celebrity. At the end of the day, she should do what is the best for her and her kids.

My varsity lecturer (English and media) told all of us to read YOU every week. He said it is the best example of in-depth reporting.

All I do know is YOU is an amazing magazine, I am hard pressed to find anything close to it after living in Europe for three years and now the USA for five years, it is informative and deals with real issues. WELL DONE!!!!! to all the people who work so hard to bring us something to look forward to every week.
