The Neighbour - review

THE NEIGHBOUR by Lisa Gardner (R194,95 Orion Books)
Rating 4/5
Reviewer: Genevieve Callaghan

This is vintage Gardner - which means no matter how sophisticated a mystery reader you are you’ll never be able to guess what happens next, the unbearable suspense will make you want to break your rule never to read the last page first and even then it won’t help!

Perhaps it’s because of this: “I started The Neighbour with a plan,” Gardner says, “and quickly ended up with a puzzle. Did Jason Jones actually kill his wife? What was he doing on the computer night after night? And what about poor four-year-old Ree, the last known person to have seen her mother alive? I thought DD Warren needed a love interest. But maybe what she really needed was to save a scared little girl. When you go to write a book, apparently, things happen.”

Indeed they do - when you read a book like this too, it seems!
