Not long ago he swore he’d never marry again but PEDRO CAMARA (44) hadn’t reckoned on Cupid scoring a bull’s-eye.

After his divorce in 2004 7de Laan’s feisty Carlos Perestrelo insisted he wasn’t in a hurry to get hitched again. Then delicate Namaqualander PETRA MULDER (38) arrived on the scene and made a mockery of his words.

The fragrance of fresh roses hangs in the air and soft music plays in the background in the chapel on Meerendal wine estate near Durbanville, Cape Town. The setting couldn’t be more romantic.

The aisle is scattered with rose petals and when Petra, wearing a Charlene Sauerman dress, finally makes her appearance several guests gasp.

Their paths crossed in 2007 when an acquaintance persuaded Pedro to go on a blind date with his then personal assistant, the couple reveal two days before the wedding.

“He said she was loads of fun, the best woman a man could meet. I was quite curious,” Pedro says. Three days later he picked up the phone and invited her out for coffee.

They had a good time but Pedro wasn’t sure he wanted to see her again.

“I preferred brunettes and I had to get used to her pace, and she to mine, because nothing rushes her.”

Two months went by with no contact, then he called her. “I missed the friendship - we’d had a good chat that first night,” Pedro says.

And so the woman with the different rhythm gradually got under his skin.
