Sun, sea, sand, luxury and quality time with family - not a bad way to come to terms with a crippling injury and devastating disappointment.

Soccer star David Beckham headed to an upmarket resort in the West Indies on the Easter weekend for a little rest and relaxation with wife Victoria and sons Brooklyn (11), Romeo (7) and Cruz (5).

Becks (34), who will be on crutches for a while yet after a snapped Achilles tendon shattered his World Cup dreams, hobbled about in the Caribbean sun while the boys played on the beach. As for Posh, she covered up carefully in a large sunhat, trademark oversized sunglasses and a sarong.

Unless the camera is lying there’s a little more to the usually stick-thin mother of three these days. Her arms look slightly more padded and her torso less insect-like, which could point to the fact she’s fattening up a bit in a bid to add a daughter to her and David’s brood.

“It’s no secret Victoria and David want a little girl,” a friend says. “After Louise [her sister] found out she’s having a daughter it has driven Vic even more to prepare for pregnancy. She has been told by doctors her diet, though healthy, wouldn’t give her the best chance of conceiving, particularly in her thirties.

“She has been advised to eat a lot more carbs and put on some weight. She has agreed and David is over the moon.”

“A little girl would complete his world,” a source says. “And Victoria would love to give him one. We’re all holding thumbs it works out for them.”
