There hasn’t been this much interest in a celeb couple’s love-life since rumours of a romance between Brad and Angie surfaced on the set of Mr & Mrs Smith. And not since those heady are-they-aren’t-they days more than five years ago has confirmation of a relationship between a famous twosome caused such a stir.
Fans of the hottest hook-up since Brangelina were whipped into a frenzy recently when the guy who plays “vegetarian” vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight film series finally admitted he and co-star Kristen Stewart are an item.
The brooding actor and brunette beauty have consistently denied they’re together despite intense speculation they’ve been dating for months. Even when they were pictured holding hands (YOU, 19 November 2009) they maintained nothing was going on.
Kristen (19) has been rude when asked about a possible romance and Rob (23) always seemed vaguely annoyed. But the British actor must have had a change of heart about telling all because after the recent British Film and Television Awards (Baftas) he told a UK newspaper they’re definitely a couple.
“It’s extremely difficult but we are together,” he said of his relationship with the actress who plays feisty Bella Swan in the Twilight films. “We can’t arrive anywhere at the same time because of the fans. It goes crazy. This was supposed to be a public appearance as a couple but it’s impossible.”
His American sweetheart seemed unimpressed by his decision to come clean though and fumed when a journalist at a London Fashion Week show asked about it. “It’s none of your business,” she apparently yelled before storming out of the room. “Kristen went mad,” a witness says. “She was very, very rude.”
But Rob must have since convinced her it’s time to let out the truth because she’s coming around - well, sort of.
The usually sulky star was all smiles at the recent New York premiere of Rob’s new film, Remember Me. And although the couple weren’t photographed together celeb-watchers say it’s significant she was there. As one insider puts it, “The fact she appeared for all the world to see is clearly a major statement about the seriousness of the once publicity-shy couple’s relationship.”
