The year has barely started yet so much has happened.
Togo’s soccer team was attacked before the start of the African Cup of Nations tournament (see our article in this week’s print issue), a man was killed by a shark off Fish Hoek beach, the island of Haiti was struck by a powerful earthquake,
Europe has been crippled by cruel winter weather . . . and just as we were putting this issue to bed rumours stepped up that
Tiger Woods was in Cape Town, seeking help at a local rehab clinic for his sex addiction. We knew 2010 was going to be a humdinger but if things carry on this way you’d better hold on to your hats - it’s going to be quite a ride!
While we kept one eye on developments we had the other on producing an issue we hope has something for everybody. Fans of novelist Marian Keyes will be riveted by her tale of depression (see the Mobi article on the Celeb menu) - she might write great chick lit but there isn’t much fluff in her life. Elsewhere Sandra Laing, now a grandmother in her fifties, talks about the movie that has just been made of her life. Sandra has featured in YOU over the years - she was a dark-skinned child born to white parents in the oppressive apartheid era and has become the latest South African to have a film made about her. Seems we’re becoming the first port of call for Hollywood these days!
Then we have a story that must be every parent’s nightmare: a bright, talented 17-year-old has moved out of the family home and become involved with a man who’s over 40. Her frantic family are desperate to get her back before she turns 18 and can do as she pleases.
Until next week,
