Soccer isn’t my preferred sport, though I know my Rooneys from my Ronaldos, think David Beckham is the sexiest sportsman alive and even took my family to the opening game at the magnificent Cape Town Stadium.
As I write I’m checking to see if our ticket applications for all the World Cup games in Cape Town have maybe, just maybe, been successful. There’s no way we’re missing the world’s biggest sporting event being hosted right here in SA, even if we have to watch at one of those big-screen venues!
Here at YOU we have a long list of World Cup-related stuff we’d like to do - and this week, with the generous sponsorship of Engen, we launch one of the initiatives: a cut-out-and-keep series called Know Your Country. With it every South African has all the facts at their fingertips, particularly when foreigners want to know how high Table Mountain is or where they can go to spot the Big Five. Please alert your children’s teachers about this series - it might come in handy for those never-ending school projects! At the same time enter your kids for the fantastic opportunity to escort the stars of the World Cup onto the soccer fields.
And if you’re more into Footballers’ Wives than the beautiful game don’t miss our story on England captain John Terry. It’s riveting stuff - and has very little to do with soccer.
Last week’s Stork recipe journal bagged with YOU has excited many readers. This week we publish the first recipes to stick in your journal - and in the spirit of Valentine’s Day we focus on . . . chocolate!
Till next week,
Esmaré
