Yet to put a foot wrong – that’s the general consensus about a pair who are fast becoming the world’s golden couple – Prince William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. 

They knocked the socks off everyone they met on their tour of North America in July, have bestowed smiles and handshakes on ever-growing crowds and met presidents and paupers alike. And all this in just six months . . .

“Everyone adores them,” a royal watcher says. “He’s a handsome prince, she’s a lovely girl, they obviously love each other – it’s exactly what the world wants.”

So when are we likely to hear the pitter-patter of little royal feet?
