This is my last editor’s letter for three months – and, believe me, I’m writing it with mixed feelings. Three months of being without the excitement of putting YOU together every week, not being the first to know what’s going on, not seeing how an idea develops until it appears on a page a week later with pictures or graphics. And not spending each day with people who’ve become good friends over the years.
But no right-minded person is going to say no to a three-month paid holiday. Media24 decided to give six of its editors – three at magazines and three at newspapers – a bit of a break. Some are back already with fresh energy and new insights, one or two are still wondering when they’re going to manage to get away.
But as you’re reading this issue my kids and I will be lying on a beach in Mauritius and in May my best friend and I will spend two weeks in Turkey. Otherwise I want to read, sleep late, cook, catch up with friends and for the first time in my life be a stay-athome mom. Perhaps I should volunteer for tuckshop duty at the school! In June I’ll be watching soccer and waving my South African flag. Sounds like a great holiday!
My able deputy, Linda Pietersen, stands in as acting editor, leading the fantastic YOU team. I hope to blog or
tweet from time to time, I’ll keep an eye on what you have to say on our website and on Facebook and for sure I’ll buy
my copy every week.
- As much as we don’t want to we’ve had to increase the cover price by R1 from this issue. The best we could do in the face of constantly rising production costs
was to keep the
increase as low
as possible.
Until July!
