We tend to get so bogged down in day-today news it’s refreshing to look at the great new South African human fossil find and realise our ancestors have been around for nearly two million years.
It’s a story that has been reported extensively in the newspapers but it’s so complicated that I – and I’m sure many YOU readers – haven’t had the time to sit down, read it all and understand it.
So in true YOU style we decided to simplify it and make it easy to understand the magnitude of this latest discovery. It’s exciting to realise that our origins are right here on Southern African soil.
Dr Jurie van den Heever, senior lecturer at Stellenbosch University’s zoology department, came to our offices and spent hours with journalist Haidee Muller painstakingly explaining to her what the latest find means (see page 128).
He was so excited knowing the story was going to make the pages of YOU and that we’d convey the importance of the find to our millions of readers.
Science made simple – that’s how I see it. Will and Kate finally to tie the knot? What a relief it would be for magazines around the world! To have another beautiful royal wedding is just what we need – all that gorgeous glamour and oodles of pomp and ceremony.
We still miss Diana – she was such a beautiful cover choice and all those pictures of her gave us so many stunning
spreads in the magazine. It would be
great to have Kate fill
that gap.
Till next week,
