YOU advice columnist Dr Louise has this advice for getting through the bad times.
TALK ABOUT IT
Whether it’s death, a break-up or a bad situation the more you express your feelings the better it is for you.
STAY POSITIVE
Avoid thinking you’ll never get over it. Negative suggestions can become reality.
TRY NOT TO GENERALISE
So he cheated. That doesn’t mean all lovers are cheats. Such thinking destroys relationships.
DON’T USE CRUTCHES
Alcohol or drugs may allow you to forget for a while but will make your depression worse. Try hugging your cat instead for comfort.
LISTEN TO YOURSELF
Most people have more inner strength and wisdom than they give themselves credit for. Believe in yours.
START SOMETHING NEW
A new activity, friendship or environment helps to bring new perspectives.
SEE A PROFESSIONAL IF NECESSARY
Consulting a psychologist, psychiatrist or counsellor is a sign of wisdom, not weakness.
NURTURE YOURSELF WHEN YOU NEED IT
Spoil yourself. Do something you wouldn’t usually allow yourself to do: take a day off from work and sleep late or do something that’s fun.
REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES
Replay the best moments of your life and re-experience the good feelings they evoked.
GET SOME FUZZY AFFECTION
A dog or cat gives you unconditional love. They don’t care if you’re grumpy or frumpy and they give great cuddles.
