No 2010 Fifa World Cup ticket? No problem! That’s the motto of organisers who have put together an impressive range of fan parks around South Africa to ensure football followers have a whale of a time.
Fifa Fan Fests were introduced during the World Cup in Germany in 2006 and changed the way people watch the global soccer spectacle. Suddenly everyone had the opportunity to watch a live match on a giant screen with an electrifying atmosphere similar to the hype experienced at a stadium.
But there’s something else that makes the parks work: they feature top-class live acts. And they’re free.
Across South Africa soccer fanatics will be spoilt for choice as they can opt for watching a match at one of 10 official Fifa Fan Fests in the major centres, heading for Public Viewing Areas (PVAs) organised by local municipalities or going to an MTN Fan Zone.
YOU has compiled a list of the main spots where you can watch the games. Remember, the fan parks will run from 11 am until 11 pm every day of the tournament, including non-match days.
No food, alcohol or weapons will be allowed into the venues. Private security guards, emergency services and members of the South African Police Services will provide security at the parks. See you there!
