“Ounooi, you have no idea how much I love you,” Johan Kotze whispers to his wife as he lies on the bed next to her. But there’s no compassion in the hands mutilating her breasts and genitals as he speaks.
A little while earlier Kotze (50) had watched as three strangers raped his wife, Ina (42), in the bedroom of his rented house in Modimolle (previously Nylstroom) in Limpopo.
It’s only when he hears Ina’s son, Conrad (19), approaching that he ceases his gruesome acts. He leaves her shattered and bloodied in the bedroom and walks out to meet the young man.
Ina hears Conrad begging for his life. Then, as she lies there unable to lift a finger to help, shots ring out – and her son screams.
