District 9 is up for a best movie nomination
District 9 is up for a best movie nomination

Esté Langeveldt, YOU’s celebrity and teens editor, gives her opinion about which award-winning performances deserve Oscar gold.

Esté's choice for best actress: Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side
Ironically, the frontrunner for best actress was also nominated for another award as worst actress! Just days before the Oscars nominations, Sandra was nominated for a Razzie - which celebrates the worst movies and performances of the year. She is a candidate for worst actress in the movie, All about Steve.  We hope she walks away with an Oscar instead!

Esté's choice for best picture: District 9
Avatar is the favourite to be 2010’s best movie and it already received this honour at the Golden Globes. But we really want District 9 to go for gold – after all we are proudly South African!

Esté's choice for best actor: Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart
The firm favourite seems to be Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart and we can’t help but to endorse his nomination. And we are so glad to see he's making a comeback.  Well done!

Esté's choice for best supporting actor: Matt Damon, Invictus
Francois Pienaar, we mean Matt Damon, deserves (green and) gold...

Esté's choice for best supporting actress: Mo'Nique, Precious
This is a must see performance in a stunning movie.

Esté's choice for best director: Quinton Tarantino, Inglorious Bastards
James Cameron is definitely the frontrunner for the best director category will probably win but just for the hell of it we'd love to see Quinton Tarantino walk away with the Oscar… Imagine the crazy speech!

Can't wait for...
My two favourite actors, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin hosting the Oscars together… It will be an award-winning performance! Probably the best Oscar night in years!

Meryl Streep could get an Oscar for her role in Julie & Julia.

I think Morgan Freeman deserves an Oscar. And I also think the hype around District 9 is ridiculous.
