This is a sweet comedy with a British sense of fun and some witty dialogue.

Jones gives a gritty, down-to-earth performance as a former skateboarder who finds love, friendship and a new sporting career as a snowboarder when she takes a job as a housekeeper at a filthy-rich London banker’s ski chalet.

Chalet Girl doesn’t try to be deep or meaningful but it’s a happy film with a kind heart and some seriously amusing and sadly poignant moments too.

There’s also terrific rapport between Jones and comedian Bill Bailey, who plays her dad.

Nighy and Brooke Shields are neatly cast as a wealthy couple spending their time in the Austrian snow. Romantic love in the form of the hunky Westwick is a cherry on top; but the story is really about friendship, loyalty and perseverance.

The music by Christian Henson is pleasingly jaunty and the ending totally satisfying.

Bonus: commentary.
