RATING: 3/5
Action comedy. 2010. 88 min. With Steve Carell, Tina Fey and Mark Wahlberg.
Director: Shawn Levy. 13PGL.

Tina Fey and Steve Carell are among the funniest people currently in showbiz. Put them together and you’ve got fireworks.

Phil (Carell) and Claire (Fey) Foster are an average suburban couple. Trying to put back the spark in their humdrum existence, and marriage, they set off for a romantic evening in New York.

Things go horribly wrong when they’re mistaken for criminals who’ve run foul of the Mafia. Before they know it they’re involved in a high-speed chase through the streets of Manhattan, with both the Mafia and the cops on their tail.

Things look up when a hunky superspy type (Wahlberg) comes to their aid but they end up in a strip club where they have to pole-dance to save their butts–with hilarious results.

If you enjoy frothy fun you’ll love Fey and Carell’s witty lines. Although your attention might occasionally drift Date Night is among the better recent madcap comedies.

Just the thing if you’re in need of good, light entertainment. Bonus: featurettes, deleted scenes.
