DVD: The Time Traveler's Wife

The film version of Audrey Niffenegger’s 2003 bestselling novel isn’t quite the blockbuster fans of the book expected but it’s perfect as a sweet, sad fantasy of a love story.

It’s about Henry (Bana), a hunky librarian who finds he has a genetic disorder he can’t control - he travels through time. He often finds himself stranded in another time zone without shelter, money or clothes until he can get back to his own life. This is how he meets a teenaged Clare (McAdams) for the first time - only to discover she’s destined to be the love of his life.

The desperate nature of their relationship and the two stars acting with all their hearts redeem the movie version - just don’t think of the book! Bonus: featurette.

Sci-fi romance. 2009. 103 min. With Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana. Director: Robert Schwentke. 13.
Rating: 3/5
Reviewer: Elmari Rautenbach
