The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, also the author of the popular romantic novel on which the film The Notebook was based.
Dear John follows John Tyree (Channing Tatum), a soldier who comes home for a short break and meets Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried). They fall deeply in love but over the next few years their bond is tested when John is sent away on various postings by the army. They stay in touch through love letters but will this be enough?

About the movie: “I know what The Notebook did to my girlfriend at the time - just utter waterworks,” Channing says.
“These movies just hit something inside of everybody. I think at the end of the movie even guys are just trying to hold it together. This film is about two kids who fall in love and have no idea how to be in love - and they have no idea what’s coming down the road.” Sounds interesting.
About filming with Amanda, “She’s really quirky and interesting and so talented. Plus she’s beautiful and funny. You can’t replace that.”

About the movie: “A lot of tears are shed. It’s really sentimental and inspiring and I’m proud of that,” she says. “Everybody needs a little romance.”
About her co-star: “He’s a guy’s guy but he’s also so sensitive to how people around him are feeling. He’s so handsome too, not bad to look at. And all the kissing scenes and the romantic scenes were just silly. We made it silly and we made it fun because it can be awkward when your partner is visiting the set.”

- She has an older sister, Jennifer Seyfried, who’s a musician in the US rock band Love City.
