Hugo tells the story of an orphan who lives in a railway station. His life changes when an old man with a toy stall takes a notebook the child got from his father.

This flick is aimed at people so in love with film they believe moving images projected on a silver screen are the greatest invention ever.

This work of art from the great Martin Scorsese pays tribute to the power and magic of movies – and it’s the most beautiful, compelling salute to this artform yet from Hollywood. No wonder it has received 11 Oscar nominations, including for best picture and best director.

It shows one should never let the child inside you die, but also warns family ties should never be broken. And it reaffirms it’s the ability to believe in dreams that keeps mankind going.

The charm of 3D has never been put to such effective, clever use.

While other movies use 3D mostly to tart up the same old stories Scorsese uses the full power and effect of 3D images with a camera that dreamily sweeps and falls, making this voyage of discovery a tour de force.

This masterpiece will bewitch you and touch your soul. It’s among the best movies ever made about how film is a controlled dream. If you see just one movie this month, go meet this orphan. He may just change your life.
