‘Fess up! How often do you clean your make-up brushes? If you’re like most of us, not often. But the experts are always ready to remind us: Bacteria lurk on make-up brushes and sponges!
It’s important to clean them at least monthly to get rid of product build-up, dead skin cells and oil, says make-up artist Tellulah Dee. This will prevent acne and pimple outbreaks – and will give your makeup a better finish.
You could use any one of a number of products, such as baby shampoo or ordinary soap, and it’s important to rinse thoroughly.
A solvent such as benzine, available at pharmacies, is also suitable because it dissolves the grease and oils between brush bristles without your having to separate the bristles.
Pour some into a plastic container large enough to hold the brushes and sponges, and wiggle them around for a couple of minutes – there’s no need to rinse in water. Whether you use soap or a solvent, blot with a clean towel or cloth to remove excess, and leave to dry thoroughly.
