A woman’s hangover turned out to be a baby.

Abigail Avery delivered her baby hungover, after a night out drinking, because she didn’t know she was pregnant.

The 24-year-old, who was on birth control and had gotten her period every month, had no idea she was highly pregnant while on a drinking spree hours before delivering her baby girl.

“I was really shocked,” Abigail said after the birth.

“I definitely wouldn’t have drunk if I’d known I was pregnant. I felt really guilty.”

After her night out, Abigail, from Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, spent the next morning eating pizza with a girlfriend.

She suddenly experienced terrible stomach pains but put it down to a urine infection.

The stabbing pain later became unbearable and, once her boyfriend of four years, Jamie Pillinger (37), arrived home, she told him she needed to get to a doctor.

“I told him something wasn’t right.”

According to the new mum, when she arrived at the hospital she could barely walk and felt as if her ‘organs were exploding’.

Pregnancy, however, was the last thing on her mind.

“I was only 23 at the time – babies were the furthest thing from my mind,” she said.

At the hospital, nurses confirmed what Abigail was not expecting: she was pregnant.

At 35 weeks, the barmaid gave birth to a 2,2 kg baby girl, who the couple named Isabella.

The tiny newborn was taken for neonatal care, where she was given antibiotics and assisted in her breathing. Hours later, the proud parents were handed their bundle of joy.

“She was beautiful,” said Abigail. “Of course, all mums think that.”

Although she was on contraceptives and had got her period during all the months of her unknown pregnancy, Abigail did experience a few pregnancy symptoms.

Pains in her stomach and needing to wake up during the night to pee were put down to a bladder infection. Her weight gain she considered a result of her poor eating habits.

“I’m a bit sad I didn’t get a scan or baby shower, but I wouldn’t change Isabella for the world.”

“I can’t believe what I thought was a hangover was Isabella.”
